MiniVac Canisters
Canisters with a typical volume of six liters have been used extensively
for sampling VOCs (EPA Methods TO-14A and
TO-15). SKC MiniVac® Canisters combine the benefits of larger
canister sampling with small, lightweight 400-ml and 1-L canisters
that can
be placed at a sampling site for area sampling or attached to a
worker's
belt for personal sampling. SKC 400-ml and 1-L stainless steel
MiniVac Canisters are optimized for personal, indoor air, and source
VOC sampling from 1 ppb to 10,000 ppm.
Using MiniVac Canisters
Ensure the canister is certified clean and evacuated. Connect the
canister to a flow controller if time-integrated samples are desired
or simply open it for grab sampling. Attach the canister at a sampling
site or onto a worker's belt and allow it to fill. The canister will
stop filling when it reaches equilibrium with external atmospheric
pressure. Ship the canister with sample to a laboratory
for analysis and subsequent cleaning.
The Sulfinert Difference
The interior of a standard MiniVac Canister is electro-polished
(proprietary process-Summa equivalent) for inertness. For ultimate
stability, use canisters with a Sulfinert-treated interior to collect
and store reduced sulfur-containing analytes.
MiniVac Canister Applications
- Indoor air investigations
- Personal sampling
- Emergency response
- Soil gas sampling
MiniVac Canisters vs Larger-volume Canisters
Small, lightweight MiniVac Canisters complement existing larger
volume canisters. The application determines which volume of canister
to use.
- MiniVac Canisters (400 and 1000 ml) are used
for more concentrated samples such as soil gas.
- 3 and 6-liter canisters are typically used
to collect integrated (TWA) ambient air samples at sampling times
of up to 24 hours.
- 15-liter canisters are used for reference standards.
