A Legacy of Innovation
SKC Through the Years
Lloyd Guild’s vision was simple, yet profound: to harness the power of science to create solutions that make a difference. From our humble beginnings, we have expanded our horizons, consistently pushing the boundaries of what is possible. Over the decades, our dedication to research and development has resulted in groundbreaking products that set industry standards and improve lives worldwide.
1962
Dr. Lloyd V. Guild's Mission in Laboratory Glassware
Chemist Dr. Lloyd V. Guild founded SKC to produce precision laboratory glassware. Lloyd served companies in the Pittsburgh area, he observed the smoggy conditions under which workers were performing their tasks, many in the steel industry. His concern grew into a passion to use his expertise to develop tools to measure chemical exposures and help protect the health and safety of these and other workers.

1970s

SKC's Legacy of Innovation
SKC produces the first commercial charcoal sorbent tube based on the NIOSH design. This launched decades of advancements in sorbent tube technology as SKC took the industry lead in sorbent tube research, development, and manufacturing. Today, SKC offers over 100 types of sorbent tubes for validated methods and specialty applications. Look for the SKC Anasorb® name — a mark of quality and reliability.
SKC's Air-Chek Life Guard and 222 Series
SKC designs Air-Chek LifeGuard and the 222 Series Low Flow pumps with stroke counter technology for sorbent tube sampling and other low flow applications.

1980s

SKC's Universal Series Pumps
SKC introduces Universal Series Sampling Pumps with refined flow characteristics and the ability to perform high and low flow sampling with one pump. SKC Universal Series pumps provided unheard of flexibility. One pump did it all —gas and vapor sampling with sorbent tubes, particulate sampling with filter cassettes and size-selective samplers, and gas sampling with bags using the pump exhaust port.
1990s
SKC's AirChek Series Pumps
SKC advances sampling pump technology with its AirChek® Series pumps, offering a smaller size, lighter weight, longer run times, and programmability.

2000s

SKC Acquires Colormetric Laboratories, Inc. (CLI)
SKC acquires Colormetric Laboratories, Inc. (CLI) to expand its existing offerings of surface and dermal contaminant evaluations for methamphetamine residue and lead to additional chemical contaminants such as amines, isocyanates, acids and bases, hexavalent chromium, phenols, nickel, OPA, and solvents. The CLI by SKC line also includes PPE breakthrough sensors and cleansers for both skin and surfaces.
SKC Introduces chek-mate® Flowmeters
Portable, light weight, fast, and highly accurate working standards that could be used in any orientation, helping to solve a limitation of dry piston-type flowmeters.

SKC Leads The Industry With Its New Touch Screen Sampling Pumps
Models include the low flow Pocket Pump TOUCH and the 5 to 5000 ml/min AirChek Touch Series – Essential, Essential+, TOUCH, and Connect. These small pumps feature unmatched ease with touch screen operation, programmability, and other features that ensure ease and accuracy. The AirChek Connect and Pocket Pump TOUCH models offer Bluetooth communication with PC/DataTrac Pro Software and SmartWave mobile app, allowing for remote pump operation and monitoring.
SKC Launches Its Line of Noise Monitoring Instruments
SKC launches its line of noise monitoring instruments, including the NoiseCHEK Personal Dosimeter, SoundCHEK Series Sound Level Meters, and AcoustiCHEK Calibrator. The hallmark of these instruments is their excellent design — specifically for OEHS professionals — and their extreme ease of use. SKC also opened its Noise Calibration Lab and services to provide the full product support to which SKC customers are accustomed.
